Plaza del Pasado in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park brings San Diego’s early history to life. The plaza is at the heart of San Diego's original Mexican pueblo, founded in 1821, which eventually grew into a bustling American town. Shops and restaurants inspired by 19th century San Diego life, live Mariachi bands singing crowd-pleasing songs and local artisans demonstrating their craft make Plaza del Pasado unique to both tourists and locals who visit the park. Featuring unique shops, art studios, and restaurants, including a frontier-inspired saloon and a festive outdoor cantina, Plaza del Pasado translates to “Plaza of the Past” in English. Its mission is to create opportunities for visitors to explore and discover meaningful personal connections to the people, places, and stories of San Diego between the years 1821 and 1872.
