Festivals and Local Events in Old Town San Diego

Old Town San Diego is a small town that evokes old San Diego, when the first settlers came to this area. Given that the first settlers were of Spanish decent, you can expect to find all sorts of Mexican festivals celebrated. In Old Town you can celebrate Mexican Independence Day, Day of the Dead or Cinco de Mayo; which is what Old Town is most known for. Cinco de Mayo in Old Town is a huge event, attracting thousands of people that come here to celebrate in Mexican style. Also Old Town features a Artisans market every Saturday. The Saturday Market in Old Town San Diego features handmade works from local artisans. The market includes such items as jewelry, photography, pottery, clothing, paintings, hand painted glass, glass blowing, woodworking's and more. Las Posadas (Dec. 13)

The celebration represents the pilgrimage of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem seeking shelter. It is one of the oldest Las Posadas celebrations in the United States. Enjoy food, song and even join in with the choir.
